The value is stored locally in the browser. It is not designed to identify a person, follow activity across websites or create an advertising profile.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored by a browser. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, pixels, software development kits and other mechanisms that store or access information on a device.
These technologies may support essential functions, remember preferences, measure use, protect security or enable advertising. Their legal treatment depends on purpose, duration, provider and whether they are strictly necessary.
4. Categories of technologies
- Strictly necessary: required to deliver a function requested by the user or protect essential operation;
- Preferences: remember choices such as language or notice acknowledgement;
- Analytics: measure use and performance;
- Marketing: support advertising, attribution or cross-site profiling;
- Embedded third-party content: may be placed by video, map or social-media providers.
5. Legal basis
Under German device-privacy rules, storing information on or accessing information from a user device generally requires consent unless the operation is strictly necessary to provide a service expressly requested by the user.
Where a technology also processes personal data, the GDPR requires a separate lawful basis and transparent information about purpose, recipients, retention and rights.
6. Browser and device controls
Visitors can delete cookies and local-storage values through browser settings. Browser documentation explains how to block storage, clear website data or restrict third-party technologies. Blocking necessary preference storage may cause the cookie notice to reappear.
7. Withdrawal and changes of choice
If optional consent-based technologies are introduced, visitors must be able to refuse them and withdraw consent with effect for the future. Necessary technologies remain available where they are required to provide requested functionality.
8. Future services and embeds
If analytics, advertising, external video, maps, social embeds or other third-party services are added, this policy and the consent interface must be updated before those services are enabled where consent or additional disclosure is required.
